NEWARK, Del. – James Madison suffered a 5-1 loss to Delaware in Colonial Athletic Association baseball action at Bob Hannah Field on Friday evening.
The Dukes (20-18, 5-8 CAA) just could not string multiple hits together while the Blue Hens (19-16, 6-4 CAA) struck early and never looked back.
Freshman Hunter Johnson accounted for JMU's only run with his first career home run in a 2-for-3 outing which is his first multi-hit game of the season along with a run scored and a RBI. Seniors Adam Sisk and Ryan Coale both turned in two-hit performances at the plate.
On the mound, senior Colton Harlow tossed a complete game (season-high eight innings), giving up five runs on nine hits with four strikeouts.
Delaware got on the board first in the second inning as a RBI triple followed by a RBI double scored two runs for the Blue Hens. Delaware added two runs in the third off a RBI single and a sacrifice fly to increase their lead to 4-0.
Johnson tallied his solo shot in the seventh then in the eighth inning Delaware's junior Nick Patten hit a solo shot, leading to the final score, 5-1.
QUOTING COACH IKE
"We had opportunities to score but could not get that big hit when we needed it. Harlow did a good job of pitching a complete game after getting down early, which is hard to do. I was proud of how we played defense tonight. We play a three-game series for a reason and tonight just wasn't our night and that happens in baseball."
