HARRISONBURG, Va. – Incoming freshman power forward Casey Irvine and transfer guard Nikki Oppenheimer have joined the James Madison Women's Basketball program for the 2018-19 season, as announced by Head Coach
Sean O'Regan on Friday afternoon.
Casey Irvine

Irvine, who was named the Valley District and DNR Player of the Year, led Spotswood to the Region Championship. She was named a Class 3 First Team selection by the VHSL and VHSCA after her efforts during her senior campaign. She tied a team-high 11 points per game and led the area with 10.1 rebounds per game. She also added 3.8 blocks per contest to her stat line. She was selected to the VHSCA All-Star game her senior season. After picking up First Team All-Conference, First Team All-District and Second Team All-Region honors following her sophomore year, Irvine sat out during her junior season sidelined with an injury. The 6-1 power forward helped the Blazers earn a State Championship her sophomore season, which was the third state championship in four years for Spotswood. She opened up her high school career earning First Team All-District honors, the first of three she would receive.
Coach O'Regan on Irvine: "I am very excited to announce that Casey is going to be with us. She had a great career at Spotswood High School and I think will progress in our system. She is very skilled around the basket, she has good touch and she is a really hard worker."
Nikki Oppenheimer
G | 5-9 | Glenview, Ill. | Montini Catholic | Syracuse
Oppenheimer is a transfer for Syracuse who played in 14 games for the Orange last season. In her collegiate debut against Morgan State, she played a season-high 13 minutes and scored a career-high four points. Before making her collegiate debut at Syracuse, she played for the Puerto Rican national team at the 2017 FIBA U19 World Cup in Italy. While there she averaged 9.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest in the seven games played. Oppenheimer represented Puerto Rico in the FIBA Americas U18 championships and helped the team finish fourth-place while averaging 11.6 points per game, which earned the team s spot in the U19 world championships. The 5'9" guard was a three-star recruit and ranked the No. 22 point guard in the Class of 2017 by espnW HoopGurlz while playing at Montini Catholic in Glenview, Illinois. Oppenheimer will sit out the 2018-19 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
Coach O'Regan on Oppenheimer: "I think Nikki will be a fantastic addition to our family. She is a sharpshooter with a very high basketball IQ and I am excited to work with her and see her progress in her year sitting out."
The Dukes who signed Madison Green, Eleanore Marciszewski and Jaylin Carodine during the early signing period, return all five starters from a team that won a share of the CAA regular season title and reached the WNIT Third Round for the second consecutive season.
