HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison field hockey has added two to their freshman class for the 2018 season. The two will add onto five who previously signed their National Letters of Intent during the fall signing period.Â

Elfi de Rooij
F | 5-4 | Amsterdam, the Netherlands | Hervormd Lyceum Zuid
de Rooij has played on two club teams in the Netherlands starting her hockey career at Amsterdam (AHBC) and currently plays for Pionké. She was the captain of the team last season and in 2015 the team finished third in the National Championship. De Rooij and AHBC were National Champions during the 2012 season. She will major in international business because she has always been interested in business and would love to work at a large international company after graduation. Â

Coach Morgan on de Rooij:Â "Elfi comes with great talent, experience, and passion. She comes from one of the best hockey areas in the world. She has tremendous speed and is crafty and dynamic with her skills. She also has an amazing work rate which matches our style of play. Her family is very supportive and has amazing character which will add to our team culture in such a positive way. We are excited to see her shine on the field this fall and add another dimension to our game."

Ongeziwe Mali
F | 5-0 | Port Elizabeth, South Africa | Pearson High School
Mali started playing for the South African Women's Hockey team when she was 18 and is the youngest player on the national team. She is currently with her team at the World Cup. Mali and the South African team have fallen in two matches (Germany and Spain and tied with Argentina. She plans to major in Health Sciences. Â

Coach Morgan on Mali:Â "Ongi, I have to thank Ian Haley for identifying Ongi as a talent for our program. She is feisty, dynamic, fast as the wind and has most recently played with her national team, representing South Africa in the women's world cup field hockey event in London. So, she comes to us fresh off the World Cup pitch! What an amazing person to include in our program. Ongi's family values are sound and she appreciates all of the opportunities that are in front of her. We are excited to see her finish in the circle and support our connected culture both on and off the field."

The Dukes are coming off a 12-6 season, which included finishing second in the Colonial Athletic Association with a 5-1 league record. JMU is set to begin the 2018 season on August 24 as they host Liberty at 6 p.m.Â
