HARRISONBURG, Va. - James Madison scored on either side of halftime on Sunday, then added a third in the final minutes to close out a resounding 3-0 win over Maryland in non-conference women's soccer as part of the Fairfield Inn by Marriott JMU Invitational at Sentara Park.
Â
Junior Haley Crawford, sophomore Ginger Deeland freshman Abby Malteseall found the back of the net for the Dukes, with Crawford assisting on both goals she didn't score and Maltese opening her collegiate scoring account with the eventual gamewinner.
Â
The Dukes edged Maryland in shots, 11-10, and matched the Terps with six corner kicks apiece. Junior goalkeeper Hannah McShearacked up a career-high six saves in the win, anchoring the JMU defense to its first shutout since 1-0 win at Elon on Sept. 24, 2017, a span of 10 matches.
 HOW THEY SCORED JMU
41' | Maltese got the scoring started just before halftime, tapping in her first JMU goal from four yards out after Crawford eluded a defender down the left side and laid a low cross at her feet.
54' | Crawford doubled the lead herself 8:11 after halftime, poking in her own close-range goal with Deel providing the low service from the right side of the box this time.
88' | Deel kept the cycle going, sealing things with 2:04 to play on a free header from 10 yards out. Crawford and senior Hailey Stein drew multiple defenders in the left corner before Stein chipped a pass into the middle of the box to find Deel all alone as she nodded her first of the season inside the far post to cap the scoring.

QUOTING COACH WALTERS

Â
"As far as game planning and getting the team ready, I have to commend my staff. Our change in shape was recommended by my associate head coach, Stuart Gore, and we worked out a few kinks in training. Much of the credit for the setup goes to him today."
