IRVING, Texas – James Madison redshirt senior quarterback Hunter Etheridge has been honored as a semifinalist for the 2018 William V. Campbell Trophy®, the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame as announced Wednesday.
The Campbell Trophy recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the country.
"These 179 impressive candidates truly represent the scholar-athlete ideal," said NFF Chairman Archie Manning. "For 60 years, the NFF National Scholar-Athlete program has showcased more than 800 college football players who have been successful on the football field, in the classroom and in the community. This year's semifinalists further illustrate the power of our great sport in developing the next generation of influential leaders."
A native of Clayton, N.C., Etheridge will graduate from JMU this December with a degree in Kinesiology with a pre-physical therapy minor. Entering his final semester as a student, he holds a 3.608 cumulative grade-point average.
Etheridge has twice been a nominee for the NCAA Elite 90 award in each of the past two appearances at the NCAA Division I National Championship game. He has been on the President's List or Dean's List every year as a student-athlete and a member of the CAA Football Academic All-Conference Team.
Off the field, Etheridge has been a volunteer at Sentara RMH Hospital, The Center for Hand and Physical Therapy and Advantage Physical Therapy and Sports Performance.
