WINNIPEG, Manitoba – Former James Madison All-American quarterback Bryan Schor has signed a professional football contract with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League, the franchise announced Tuesday.
Schor signed a one-year contract with Winnipeg, with the club option for a second year.
"It's something that I'm really excited for after not playing for a while," Schor said. "I was looking for an opportunity and I wanted an opportunity, so this felt right."
Schor (2014-17) finished his four-year JMU career as the program's all-time leader in career passing yards (7,078), passing touchdowns (62), completions (559) and total offense (8,241). He guided JMU to a 28-2 record in his two full seasons as a starter, which included a pair of trips to the NCAA Division I Football Championship game, winning the title in 2016.
As a junior in 2016, he was a HERO Sports Second Team All-American and won the CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year Award after throwing for 3,002 yards and 29 touchdowns, to go with 569 rushing yards and 10 scores. The Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year led the country in completion percentage (73.1%), pass efficiency (186.2) and yards per pass attempt (10.11) while ranking fourth in point responsibility (234) and sixth in passing touchdowns.
A Walter Payton Award finalist as a senior, Schor threw for 3,222 yards and 26 touchdowns while rushing for 322 yards and seven scores in 2017. He led the CAA and ranked ninth nationally in completion percentage (65%) to help the Dukes reach the national title game for the second straight season.
"It means a lot, I'm very grateful," Schor said "I'm happy that I stepped away for a while. I didn't realize how much football meant to me. To have the opportunity to go back, I realize this is what I want to do. I questioned it for a little while, stepped away from the game, kept seeing what was going on in the football world and now I finally get a chance to go back to it. So, there isn't a plan B, this is what I want to do."
Schor heads north of the border for minicamp in April before training camp starts in May. The Blue Bombers kick off the 2019 season on June 15.
