HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison concluded fall tournament play Sunday, as the program had split squads at both the Brown Invitational in Providence, Rhode Island and Flames Invitational in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Â
The Flames Invitational consists of pods for their competition. In the final round of singles, the Dukes collected three victories. Sophomore
William Karpinski earned his third singles victory in Lynchburg against Liberty's Goncalo Ferreira, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Sophomore
Stefan Petrovic won 7-5, 6-2 against App State's Campbell Stone. Senior
Damon Roberts dropped Gavin Segraves from Navy, 6-3, 6-3.Â
Â
The Brown Invitational was in a dual format, with two schools competing against each other in four singles matches and two doubles. The Dukes faced off against Brown and won three matches. After JMU and Brown were tied with three matches each after singles and doubles, a tiebreaker was played. A tandem was created for both teams, consisting of one doubles player from the first duo and one from the other. Â
Â
Senior
Paul Mendoza and junior
Alvaro Arce were matched up in the tiebreaker match and fell to Brown's Jacob Walker and Peter Litsky, 11-9. The duo of freshman
Holden Koons and Mendoza remained undefeated together in doubles play at Brown with a 6-3 win over Ching Lam and Litsky.
Â
In singles play, Mendoza defeated Lam, 6-3, 6-2. Junior
Gonzalo Adis bounced back and forced a tiebreaker against Niraj Komatineni, winning 3-6, 6-3, 10-5.
