CHARLESTON, S.C. – James Madison redshirt senior quarterback Ben DiNucci has been selected to the midseason watch list for the CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy, the College Football Performance Awards announced on Tuesday.
It's the second consecutive season DiNucci has been honored on the midseason watch list.
Through nine games this season, DiNucci ranks as one of the nation's most efficient passers. He leads the Colonial Athletic Association and ranks fifth in the FCS with a 68% completion percentage and is also sixth with a pass efficiency rating of 161.1.
DiNucci has completed 149-of-220 passes for 1,951 yards and 15 touchdowns with only four interceptions. He's also rushed for 290 yards and a pair of scores, averaging 4.5 per carry. DiNucci has completed better than 75% of his passes in four games and has thrown two or more touchdowns in five outings.
The midseason watch list includes 34 performers from the Football Championship Subdivision and 2019 marks the fifth straight year at least one JMU player has been recognized.
DiNucci is one of seven CAA quarterbacks to make the list, as he's joined by Albany's Jeff Undercuffler, Elon's Davis Cheek, Richmond's Joe Mancuso, Stony Brook's Tyquell Fields, Towson's Tom Flacco and Villanova's Daniel Smith.
Former JMU quarterback Bryan Schor won the 2016 CFPA National Performer of the Year and linebacker Stephon Robertson was co-winner of the 2013 CFPA Linebacker of the Year award.
The goal of the CFPA awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.
The award winner will be announced on Jan. 15, 2020.
