HARRISONBURG, Va. – As part of its commitment to offering an elite game day experience, James Madison University is introducing enhanced measures in Bridgeforth Stadium with the goal of improving security on football game days. Beginning with the 2019 season, JMU Athletics is introducing the adoption of a clear bag policy and the use of walk-through metal detectors at all home football games.
Â
The implementation of the clear bag policy and metal detectors follows suit with many stadiums and sporting venues around the country, both at the collegiate and professional levels.
Â
Metal detectors will be deployed outside of all stadium entrances. Anyone entering Bridgeforth Stadium is subject to screening before scanning their game tickets. For guests who are unable to utilize a walk-through metal detector, hand-held metal detectors will be used.
Â
"Creating a safe environment where fans can have an enjoyable experience at Bridgeforth Stadium is paramount to our game day operations," JMU Assistant Athletic Director of Ticketing & Customer Relations Mike Carpenter said. "We continually look at our security measures to ensure they meet the standards set by campus, state and national authorities who help guide our decision making on security issues."
Â
To further enhance the security screening process at Bridgeforth Stadium, Athletics is also implementing a clear bag policy. Fans are asked to adhere to the policy by either leaving all prohibited, non-clear bags at home or in their vehicles. More information on prohibited items and new procedures with the clear bag and metal detector implementations can be found at: www.jmusports.com/clearbag.
Â
JMU Athletics will provide one 12" x 6" x 12" clear bag to all season-ticket holders as a part of their season package delivery this summer. Clear bags are on sale now at the JMU Bookstore.
Â
At this time, the clear-bag policy and entry procedures will only be in effect at Bridgeforth Stadium and will begin in September with the 2019 football season. Opportunities at other Athletics venues will be evaluated at a later time.
