James Madison begins its quest for a Colonial Athletic Association championship on Friday when the Dukes welcome in-town rival and conference foe William & Mary to the Convocation Center for a 7 p.m. tip.
In its last contest, JMU held Robert Morris to 16.2 percent (11-68) from the field in the 59-32 blowout win.
Senior Jackie Benitez led the way with a game- and season-high 21 points and a season-high four rebounds. Senior Kayla Cooper-Williams added nine points, a season-high 17 boards and a season-high seven blocks.
On the season, senior Kamiah Smalls paces the team dropping 18.8 points (second-most in CAA; 34th in D1) while also snatching a team-high 2.1 steals. Cooper-Williams leads the team grabbing 10.0 rebounds (first in CAA; 31st in D1) and paces the team blocks per game with 3.7, good for the third-most in Division I.
In its last contest, pulled off a 63-51 come-from-behind win against George Washington on Dec. 29.
In the game, Eva Hodgson led the way with a game-high 23 points including knocking down three treys and two rebounds. Victoria Reynolds posted 19 points, six rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals.
On the season, Hodgson paces the team averaging 18.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
Friday's contest will be the 89th meeting between the Dukes and Tribe with JMU holding a 71-17 lead.
JMU has complete control of the series when played in the Convocation Center, posting a 25-5 advantage.
In the last meeting on Feb. 24, 2019, the Dukes topped William & Mary, 78-65 in Williamsburg, Va. In the contest, then-junior Jackie Benitez posted a team- and season-high 21 points, five boards and three steals.
