COLLEGE PARK, Md.– The James Madison men's tennis team competed against Georgetown on Saturday afternoon, winning 4-3 at the Junior Tennis Champions Center.
The Dukes improved to 5-4 on the season, while the Hoyas fell to 4-6. JMU notched two doubles wins and three singles wins in the victory.
JMU kicked off doubles play with a victory on court one. Junior
Alvaro Arce and senior
Josh Raymundo defeated Rohan Kamdar and Andrew Rozanov, 6-3. At No. 2 doubles, senior
Tate Steinour and freshman
Holden Koons earned a 7-6 (3) win over Georgetown's Connor Lee and Charlie Sharton to give the Dukes a 1-0 match lead.
In singles play, JMU split its six matches, winning three of six, but won the first three to clinch the match at 4-0.
In singles, senior
Damon Roberts defeated Mark Militzer, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 singles to extend the lead to 2-0. Sophomore
William Karpinski made it a 3-0 advantage following his straight-set victory at No. 5 singles over Rozanov, 6-2, 6-2.
Koons clinched the match, as continued his singles victory streak, extending it to six straight. He triumphed over Kieran Foster at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-3 to give JMU the 4-0 lead.
Sophomore
Stefan Petrovic and junior
Gonzalo Adis both forced third sets in their respective matchups but fell to their opponents, as Georgetown won the final three singles matches to make it a 4-3 final.

"We played very smart in doubles. The guys did a great job of setting up the net player. We focused on singles all week, playing the high percentage shots. We practiced going for good margin and being smart on what shots we attack with. We did a better job today and look to continue to improve as we travel to Orlando for spring break."

JMU will travel to Orlando, Fla., to compete in five neutral-site matches from March 8-12. The Dukes will first face off against Lehigh next Sunday afternoon.
