ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – James Madison men's tennis opened its five-match trip in the Sunshine State with a 5-2 victory against Lehigh on Sunday afternoon at Sanlando Park.
The Dukes improved to 6-4 on the year, while the Mountain Hawks fell to 3-4.
JMU won a pair of doubles matches and four of six singles matches for its second straight victory.
Junior
Alvaro Arce and
Josh Raymundo kicked off the match with a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles over Zack Elliott and Harry Yang for their fourth doubles win in a row. The Dukes clinched the match's first point at No. 3 doubles, as junior
Gonzalo Adis and sophomore
William Karpinski rolled to a 6-2 victory against Jeremy Learner and Steven Nazaroff.
In singles play, freshman
Holden Koons extended his singles win streak to seven straight with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph on court two against Wang. The Dukes stretched the lead to 3-0 with a win on court five, as Karpinski downed Jack Martin-Dyer in straight sets, by scores of 6-0, 7-5.
After Lehigh rallied to take a win on court three, JMU secured the team win on court four when senior
Damon Roberts won a pair of tiebreakers against Jacob Edelchik, taking the match 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5).
Arce closed the match with a three-set win on court one versus Elliott. He outlasted the Mountain Hawks' top player by scores of 6-4, 6-7 (7), 6-4.
