QUICK HITS
- James Madison will look to string back-to-back victories together on Thursday evening as the Dukes travel north to Philadelphia for a 7 p.m. matchup with Drexel at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
- Last Saturday, James Madison forced 21 turnovers and four JMU players scored in double figures on Saturday afternoon as the Dukes sprinted to an 83-66 victory over UNCW at the Convocation Center. Junior guard Matt Lewis led the way as the Dukes snapped a seven-game losing streak, racking up 21 points - including 19 in the second half - while adding five boards and four assists.
- Heading into JMU's second matchup with the Dragons, junior Matt Lewis leads the way with 18.7 points per game, while junior Darius Banks adds 13.6 points and junior Dwight Wilson is averaging a double-double at 11.0 points and 10.6 boards.
- Wilson's rebounding currently ranks third in the league as one of just three players averaging double digits, and his 53.5% clip from the field leads the CAA, while sophomore Deshon Parker is second in the CAA in assist-turnover ratio at 1.8.
- Lewis has found success against Drexel in his six games against the Dragons, averaging 19.5 points per contest and shooting 44.2% from the field. The junior has played even better in Philadelphia itself, putting up 23.5 points and adding 5.5rpg/4.5apg.
- Heading into the season, JMU welcomed a six-member freshman class, including forward Michael Christmas, Dalton Jefferson and Julien Wooden, as well as guards Zyon Dobbs, Jayvis Harvey and Quinn Richey.
SCOUTING THE DRAGONS
- Drexel has dropped three straight games - all on the road - to fall to 12-11 (5-5 CAA) on the season, but continues to have success on its home court, as the Dragons enter Thursday night with a 9-2 mark at home, including a 4-1 record in league games.
- Sophomore guard Camren Wynter continues to drive the Drexel offense, leading the Dragons with 15.2 points per contest, while junior forward James Butler has racked up 15 double-doubles, averaging 13.2 points and a league-best 12.0 rebounds per game.
SERIES HISTORY
- Thursday evening will see JMU and Drexel face each other for the 38th time in program history - the Dragons represent the 10th-longest rivalry in program history for the Dukes, with all but one contest coming since Drexel joined the CAA for the 2001-02 campaign.
- The Dragons lead the all-time series by a 22-15 margin after picking up the win in Harrisonburg last month. The series has been one of runs, with Drexel winning the first 12 meetings and JMU later running off nine straight from 2014 to 2018.
- In the meeting earlier this year, junior Matt Lewis racked up 24 points, but the Dukes dropped a hard-fought 78-71 decision at the Convocation Center. JMU never led or trailed by double digits in a tight contest, cutting the deficit to two with 2:50 to play before Drexel closed with an 11-of-12 performance from the free throw line in the final 2:19.
