BRISTOL, Conn. – Former James Madison baseball standout Kellen Kulbacki has been nominated for the right field position as part of ESPN's Greatest All-Time College Baseball Team. Kulbacki played for the Dukes from 2005-07 and was drafted by the San Diego Padres with the 40
th overall pick of the 2007 MLB First-Year Player Draft, the third-highest pick in program history.
Kulbacki left quite an impression on the JMU program. He is number one on the career list for home runs (51), slugging percentage (.755), and on-base percentage (.501), and is second in batting average at .400. He also holds single-season records for batting average (.464), slugging percentage (.943), and on-base percentage (.568). His 24 homers in 2006 led all of Division I and set the JMU and CAA single-season record, which he shares with Jake Lowery.
His accolades tallied up his last two years earning CAA Player of the Year, VaSID Player of the Year, First Team All-America, and First-Team All-East Region in 2006 and 2007. He was named National Co-Player of the Year by Collegiate Baseball and NCBWA District IV Player of the Year in 2006, and earned All-ECAC honors in 2007.
"I was overwhelmed with gratitude when I read I was named by ESPN as one of the eight all-time best right fielders in college baseball history," said Kulbacki. "The amount of appreciation and thanks that I have to God and all who helped me through this journey is hard to put into words. To be mentioned with some of baseball's all-time greats in this type of atmosphere is very humbling. I would like to thank those who were by my side, I wouldn't be able to achieve this accolade without all of you!"
Voting for the right field position opens up to the public Wednesday, June 24, and continues for three days. Information on the reveal show for the overall team will be announced at a later date by ESPN. To vote, follow this link
