- James Madison will open the new year hosting Towson to begin Colonial Athletic Association action. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday in the Atlantic Union Bank Center with the game broadcast live on FloSports. JMU is undefeated in conference openers in head coach Sean O'Regan's tenure (4-0).
- In their last game on Dec. 19, the Dukes were unable to find an offensive rhythm in the middle quarters and dropped a tough 101-59 decision to then-No. 14/14 Maryland inside of the Xfinity Center.Â
- In the game, freshman Peyton McDaniel paced the Dukes with scoring 14 points, knocking down a game-high four three-pointers to go along with four rebounds, two steals and an assist.
- On the season, sophomore Kiki Jefferson leads the Dukes in scoring, posting 13.7 points per game in addition to dishing out 2.3 assists (2nd on team) while freshman Jamia Hazell and McDaniel add 12.7 and 12.3 points per game, respectively. Sophomore Rayne Tucker paces JMU in the paint, grabbing 7.4 rebounds, including 3.4 offensive boards a game while also leading the team in blocks per game (1.4).
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
- Towson will return to action after dropping a 78-69 decision in its last contest on Dec. 22 in SECU Arena against Saint Francis. With the loss, the Tigers finished non-conference action with a 5-2 record.Â
- CAA Preseason Player of the Year Kionna Jeter led the charge for the Tigers as she posted 19 points alongside a team-high eight rebounds. Shavonne Smith followed behind with 17 points and four boards.
- On the season, Jeter leads the team in scoring (24.6, second in CAA, 11th in D1), shooting 45 percent (68-151) from the field and leads in steals (2.3) while grabbing the second-most boards per game (6.1).
SERIES HISTORY
- Sunday's contest will be the 52nd meeting between the Dukes and the Tigers.
- JMU holds a comfortable 45-6 overall lead including a healthy 22-1 advantage in Harrisonburg.
- In the last meeting on Feb. 9, 2020, five Dukes scored in double figures to avenge a heartbreaking loss earlier in the season to Towson with a dominating 81-39 win inside of the Convocation Center.Â
