CHARLESTON, S.C. – Five James Madison players scored in double figures with three Dukes securing a double-double to cruise past College of Charleston, 70-56 in Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball action inside of TD Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Despite having one of their lesser shooting performances of the season, the Dukes (8-5, 4-2 CAA) held the Cougars (5-4, 1-2 CAA) to a mere 30.8 percent (20-of-65) clip from the field including only allowing four made threes to earn the victory in game one of the weekend.
Junior
Jaylin Carodine had a career day as she led JMU with her first career double-double in a team-high 13 points and a game-high tying 12 rebounds, both which are career highs for her. Grad student
Anne Diouf followed behind with her first career double-double as well with career highs of 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Sophomore
Kiki Jefferson poured in her third career double-double with 10 points and a season-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore
Rayne Tucker added 12 points and seven rebounds while freshman
Jamia Hazell, who earned her first career start, dropped 11 points.
How It Happened
JMU started out on fire to begin the game, jumping out to an 18-12 lead after 10 minutes of action by limiting the Cougars to only four made field goals. The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair but the Dukes controlled the edge at the break, 33-24.
The Dukes were unable to be stopped in the third quarter as the team put up 24 points on 8-of-19 (42.1%) shooting with at one point leading by 20 points (56-36, 1:59) which was a big enough gap to cruise the rest of the way for the win.
