QUICK HITS
- The James Madison Dukes will welcome the week's second quickly-scheduled non-conference opponent on Tuesday afternoon, as Florida Atlantic will make the trip to Harrisonburg for a 4 p.m. matchup at the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
- The Dukes were originally scheduled to open their Colonial Athletic Association schedule this past weekend along with the rest of the league, but a positive COVID-19 test in the Towson program forced the postponement of those two games.
- Entering Tuesday, the Dukes sit at 3-4 on the season after dropping a hard-fought 80-73 decision to Morgan State on Sunday evening, their first game in nearly two weeks following the holiday break.
- Seniors Matt Lewis and Zach Jacobs return to lead a new-look JMU squad that welcomes 10 newcomers and returns just five players from last season's 9-21 campaign that saw the Dukes go 2-16 in league play.Â
- Lewis is averaging 21.1 points per contest through the opening seven games, climbing to third place on JMU's all-time scoring list, while newcomer guard Vado Morse is adding 12.6 ppg with the help of a 44.4% clip (12-of-27) from three.
- Fresh off his first career double-double, freshman Justin Amadi enters Tuesday averaging 8.4 points per contest on an impressive 71.4% (25-35) percentage from the floor, to go along with 4.6 rebounds per game.
- The Dukes' other freshmen are also off to strong starts, with Terell Strickland averaging 4.7p/3.3r/3.6a/2.6s through the opening weeks and Terrence Edwards checking in at 6.9p/5.1r/2.4a.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
- FAU will be coming off a lengthy hiatus as they get set to visit Harrisonburg, having improved to 5-3 on the season with a 107-72 win over Florida College back on Dec. 21 and have not played since. Prior to that game, the Owls dropped a 78-69 decision at Stetson on Dec. 15.
- Senior forward Jailyn Ingram leads the way for FAU on all fronts, racking up 14.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest to pace a big Owls lineup that outrebounds opponents by a 41.6-32.8 margin.
SERIES HISTORY
- Tuesday will mark the Dukes' fourth-ever matchup with FAU in men's basketball, with all three contests coming at a different site within the last 20 years and JMU picking up victories in all three meetings.
- The last meeting between the two teams came during the 2008-09 season, when JMU picked up an 81-64 victory over the Owls in the NIT Season Tip-Off in Davidson, N.C. on Nov. 25, 2008. Five different JMU players scored in double figures in that game, led by 17 from forward Andrey Semenov on 8-of-10 shooting from the field.
