Seven Former JMU Players Set for 2020 NFL Postseason

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Seven former James Madison student-athletes, including five All-Americans, have qualified for the 2020 National Football League playoffs, which begin with the Super Wild Card Weekend on Saturday, Jan. 9 and Sunday, Jan. 10.

Three players were part of division championships – Dean Marlowe (Buffalo Bills), Jimmy Moreland (Washington Football Team) and Raven Greene (Green Bay Packers). Earning the top wild-card spot in the NFC were Aaron Stinnie and Josh Wells (Tampa Bay Buccaneers).

Additionally, two former players who coach in the NFL ranks will be part of the postseason festivities. Assistant wide receivers coach Blaine Stewart (Pittsburgh Steelers) was part of the AFC North division championship squad, and quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo (Chicago Bears) earned the final wild-card slot in the NFC.

Marlowe appeared in 15 games with four starts during the regular season in Buffalo. He tallied 16 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two interceptions, a pass breakup and one fumble recovery. His lone recovery came in the waning seconds of the week eight win against New England, and he closed the regular season with his first two career interceptions at Miami.

Moreland made five starts at cornerback in his 14 games during the season for Washington. He accrued 33 tackles, a half sack, one interception, a pass breakup and one forced fumble. He registered his first career interception in the opening-weekend win against Philadelphia and had four games with five or more tackles.

Greene played in 10 games for Green Bay before being placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. He was active in those 10 outings, producing 40 tackles, 1.5 sacks, one interception, four pass breakups and a forced fumble. He intercepted his first pass in week nine at San Francisco and also had a sack in week four versus Atlanta. Greene made six or more stops in four games.

Stinnie and Wells both play on the offensive line in Tampa Bay, blocking for future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady. Stinnie appeared in six games, which included playing in each the last four of the regular season. Wells played in 15 games, making his first start in week 15 against Atlanta.

Stewart is in his third season with the Steelers and first as assistant wide receivers coach, helping them to their first playoff appearance since 2017.

DeFilippo is in his first season with the Bears, aiding in their second playoff appearance in three seasons. He was also previously quarterbacks coach in Philadelphia when it won the Super Bowl in 2017.
