BOSTON, Mass. – James Madison fought hard in the second half, but a Northeastern first half goal ended up being the difference maker on Sunday afternoon as JMU fell, 1-0, at Parsons Field.
Â
The Dukes fall to 4-7-1 and 1-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while Northeastern is now 5-6-1, 2-2 CAA.
Â
Both teams battled it out in the first half as the teams were evenly matched against each other. Northeastern was able to break through in the 35
th minute, set up by a free kick into the box that was fired in to make it 1-0. The Dukes had an opportunity to respond back only 20 seconds later, but
Amanda Attanasi's shot was saved.
Â
JMU then was in control of the second half, rarely allowing the ball to fall into their defensive half of the field. The Dukes pressured the Huskies' backline throughout the half, as they outshot Northeastern 8-0 during the second period. The Dukes found one of their best chances in the 61
st minute with three consecutive corner kicks, but couldn't convert and find the back of the net.
Â
The Dukes had another great opportunity to knot the game at one in the 75
th and 76
th minutes with three consecutive shots, but all three would come up saved. The trio of Attanasi,
Ginger Deel, and
Hannah Coulling combined for 10 shots with eight on goal during the match, but the Northeastern defense held strong to take the match, 1-0.
Â
Game Notes
- The Dukes took all seven of their corner kicks in the second half.
- JMU recorded 10 shots on goal, the fourth time they've hit double digits this season.

Quoting Head Coach Joshua Walters, Sr.
"None of us are happy with that result. We made a mistake on a clearance from a free kick in the first half that cost us and then played as well as we have played this year in the second half. We created nine good chances in the half, but couldn't get one in the net. This one will stick with use as we were good enough to get a result but fell short."

Up Next
The Dukes will remain on the road and take on Towson on Thursday, Oct. 14 for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
