CHARLESTON, S.C. – James Madison quarterback Cole Johnson has been selected as the CFPA FCS National Performer of the Week following his record-setting outing, the College Football Performance Awards announced on Sunday.
Johnson set the program's single-game record with six passing touchdowns in JMU's 45-21 win against Elon. He completed 88% of his passes, going 22-of-25 for 307 yards. That included 20 consecutive completions, as he went 21-of-22 in the first half alone. He threw for five touchdown passes in the first half, which was also a JMU single-half record.
The Virginia Beach, Va., native has thrown for 1,997 passing yards and 21 touchdowns with just two interceptions in his eight starts. He ranks second nationally in completion percentage (69.7%), sixth in passing touchdowns, seventh in pass efficiency (161.4) and 10th in point responsibility per game (18.0).
Johnson and the Dukes return to action on Saturday, Nov. 6 when they host Campbell for Homecoming. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Bridgeforth Stadium and will be televised on NBC Sports Washington Plus.
