Cole Johnson Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison quarterback Cole Johnsonhas been voted to the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for district 3, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Thursday.

Johnson becomes just the third JMU player in program history to be honored on the All-District Team and the first since Dominick Richards in 2015. He now moves to the national ballot to be in consideration for the Academic All-America Team.

The Virginia Beach, Va., native graduated from JMU with a bachelor's degree in management and currently enrolled in the cyber intelligence master's certificate program, in which he holds a 3.52 GPA.

On the field, Johnson is one of the nation's most efficient passers. He's 212-of-317 for 2,590 yards and 26 touchdowns with only two interceptions. Johnson has also run 201 yards with a team-leading five rushing scores.

Johnson ranks top-10 nationally in four statistical categories, including third in pass efficiency rating (161.2), fourth in completion percentage (66.8%), seventh in passing touchdowns (26) and ninth in point responsibility per game (18.6). He's also 17th in completions per game (21.1) and 21st in passing yards per outing (257.9).

The 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-America Team for Division I will be announced on Dec. 15.
