HARRISONBURG, Va. — The James Madison women's basketball team collected a season-high 10 three-pointers in Sunday's 78-60 win over Hampton. The Dukes improved to 2-2 on the year while the Lady Pirates fall to 1-4.
Sophomore
Jamia Hazell led JMU in scoring with 16 points while classmate
Steph Ouderkirk recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and a career-best 12 rebounds.
Hampton was led by Jermany Mapp, who led all scorers with 19 points.
How It Happened
-The game began with both teams trading baskets before Hazell hit back-to-back to threes to help the Dukes breakaway and go on a 10-2 run to end the first quarter.
-JMU shot 42.4% (25-59) from the field and tied their season-best three-point percentage of 35.7 (10-28).
-The Dukes held Hampton to just 30.9% (17-55) from the floor, the lowest of any JMU opponent so far this season.
-Four Dukes scored in double figures, led by Hazell with 16,
Kiki Jefferson with 13, Ouderkirk with 11 and
Brianna Tinsley with her season-high of 10.
Statistically Speaking
- Six Dukes knocked down at least one triple in the win.
- Tinsley shot 100% across the board (2-for-2 from three and 4-for-4 from the foul line).
- Hazell registered a season-high four assists while the Dukes dished out a season-best 11.

Jaylin Carodine pulled down a season-high eight rebounds and added six points, a steal and an assist with zero turnovers.

Annalicia Goodman dished out a career-high four blocks. She added five boards and five points to her stat line.
First Quarter: JMU 19, Hampton 10
- The Dukes shot 54% (7-13) from the floor and 60% (3-5) from long range in the opening 10 minutes.
- Hampton recorded six of their 10 points from the foul line as they shot a perfect 100%.
Second Quarter: JMU 38, Hampton 22
- The JMU bench showed up in the second quarter to add 13 points for the Dukes.
- Tinsley scored eight of her 10 points in the second, six of which came from three-point range.
- The Dukes collected four offensive boards that led to six second-chance points.
Third Quarter: JMU 58, Hampton 39
- JMU saw their largest lead of the game at the 1:52 mark in the third as they led by 24 following a 7-0 run by the Dukes.
- The Dukes shot 50% from three-point range, hitting 4-of-8.
Fourth Quarter: JMU 78, Hampton 60
- Hampton opened the final quarter on a 10-1 run until Ouderkirk knocked down a pair of free throws at the 6:54 mark to end the streak.
-The Lady Pirates won the fourth quarter 21-20, but JMU's early lead was too much for Hampton to come back from.
