CHICAGO – Six James Madison student-athletes were named to the 2021 Stats Perform FCS All-America Team, the organization announced Monday.
Ethan Ratke and
Kyle Davis headlined the Dukes as First Team All-Americans. Earning Second Team accolades were
Cole Johnson,
Antwane Wells Jr. and
Bryce Carter and
Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey took home Third Team honors.
Ratke wrapped up his illustrious career as one of the greatest kickers in college football history. He set the NCAA all-division records for career field goals (101) and scoring by a kicker (542). He completed the 2021 season going 29-of-32 on field goals and 63-of-64 on extra points for 150 points, which is tied for the second-most points in JMU single-season history. His 29 field goals also set JMU and CAA records while matching the FCS single-season record.
Davis, who serves as the long snapper, had no bad snaps all season and helped Ratke's record-setting season and career. He was part of the PAT/field goal unit that led the country with 2.07 field goals per game and ranked fourth nationally with a .906 field goal percentage.
Johnson turned in one of the program's best performances at quarterback in 2021. He was 287-of-422 for 41 touchdowns with just four interceptions. Johnson also rushed for 236 yards and a team-best six touchdowns. He set the JMU single-season records for passing yards, passing touchdowns and completions. The Walter Payton Award finalist was second in the FCS in pass-efficiency rating (173.4), third in completion percentage (.680), fourth in passing touchdowns, sixth in point responsibility (20.1) and 15th in passing average (269.9).
Wells Jr. had a breakout season, breaking all three JMU single-season receiving records. He recorded 83 receptions for 1,250 yards and 15 touchdowns. Wells Jr. turned in six 100-yard games and five games with two or more scores to tie for the nation's lead in receiving touchdowns. He also ranked top 20 nationally in receptions per game (5.9) and receiving yards per outing (89.3).
Carter was JMU's top pass rusher this season, leading the team in tackles for loss and tied for the team lead in sacks. He tallied 54 total tackles with 22 tackles for loss and 9.0 sacks while also producing seven quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles and one recovery. Carter ranked 12th nationally in tackles for loss and was also tied for fifth in the conference in total sacks.
Tucker-Dorsey was JMU's lead tackler this fall, as he tallied 116 total stops. He also produced 9.0 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, four interceptions, six hurries, four pass breakups, two forced fumbles and one recovery. He ranked seventh in the CAA in tackles per game (8.3) and tied for third in interceptions. Tucker-Dorsey had six games with double-digit tackles, including a career-high 12 twice.
