FAIRFAX, Va. – James Madison men's soccer picked up their first win of the season behind a trio of Dukes, pushing past George Mason, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at George Mason Stadium.
The Dukes move to 1-0-1 on the season, as the Patriots drop to 0-1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half opened up slow for both teams, with only three shots combined between the two teams in the first 37 minutes. JMU was applying pressure throughout the half though, taking six corner kicks in the half. The sixth corner kick of the half was a huge one though, as sophomore Rodrigo Robles took the kick and found the back of the net with only eight seconds left in the half to give JMU a 1-0 into halftime.
The Dukes then added a second goal in the 57th minute when Luca Erhardt took a shot off of a rebound from a corner kick. JMU didn't waste much time adding on another goal, as Evan Paez scored his first career goal seven minutes later to make it a 3-0 game. The Dukes continued applying pressure in the second half, taking four corner kicks, but the game ended in favor of JMU.
Goalkeeper TJ Bush spent 83 minutes between the posts for the Dukes, collecting one save and not allowing a goal.
