ELON, N.C. – JMU women's tennis continued their unbeaten streak in conference play with a victory over Elon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
The Dukes improved to 8-2 on the year, and the Phoenix dropped to 11-4.
In doubles play, redshirt sophomore
Daria Afanasyeva and redshirt senior
Alexis Franco earned the first victory of the day, beating Sibel Tanik and Olivia Archer, 6-3.
After earning the #76 ranking for Division I doubles earlier this week, the team of redshirt sophomore
Kylie Moulin and redshirt senior
Jona Roka secured the doubles point for the Dukes with a 6-3 victory over Lizette Reding and Ali O'Dea. The win moved Moulin/Roka to 7-0 on the season.
Doubles ended on court three, where redshirts sophomores
Natalia Nikolopoulou and
Daniela Voloh orchestrated a comeback to pick up the doubles sweep. After falling behind 4-5, they won the final three sets and beat Victoria Saldh and Sofia Edo, 7-5.
Transitioning to singles, Voloh used that momentum from doubles straight into a 6-0, 6-4 victory against O'Dea on court six. Next to finish was Moulin, beating Archer 6-3, 7-5 on court four.
Franco's win on court five clinched the match for the Dukes as she beat Sofia Edo, 7-5, 6-1. Roka then added to the Dukes' lead with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory on court two over Tanik.
The last point for the Dukes came by way of Afanasyeva on court one, coming from behind and winning in a super tiebreaker, 6(4)-7, 6-2, 1-0(7).
