HARRISONBURG, Va. - James Madison forwards
Ginger Deel and
Hannah Coulling each netted first-half goals on Sunday afternoon, as the Dukes erased an early deficit and picked up a 2-1 victory over College of Charleston in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer action at Sentara Park.
Â
The Dukes (1-2-1, 1-1 CAA) fell behind on an early penalty kick, but got a quick response and controlled the vast majority of possession as they turned things around on the Cougars (0-6-1, 0-2-1) and picked up their first win of the 2020-21 spring campaign.
Â
Deel and Coulling led the way with their goals, as the Dukes spread seven shots across six different players. Junior midfielder
Ebony Wiseman and Deel each picked up an assist on the day, while the JMU defense held Charleston to just a single shot on goal across 90 strong minutes.

HOW THEY SCORED
College of Charleston
12' | Charleston opened the scoring on its first and only shot on goal, with Powell burying a penalty kick to the left side of the net after the Dukes were whistled for a handball inside the box.
JMU
24' | Deel leveled the scoreline off her own rebound, collecting a pass from Wiseman on the break and firing a tightly-angled shot that was saved, then pouncing on the loose ball and finishing the job off a deflection to put things back at 1-1.
33' | Coulling netted the winner just past the half-hour mark, tapping home her first touch from five yards out after Wiseman and Deel connected on a through ball and Deel beat the keeper with a low pass across the area.

QUOTING COACH WALTERS
"It was exciting to see us on our game field at Sentara Park today, considering our last match there was back on October 27, 2019! I love that our players have been rewarded for all the hard work they have been putting in. This was a big three points for our program today - we still have a lot of work to do, but we keep our postseason hopes alive."
