Bats Come Alive as Dukes Down Falcons

Redshirt junior Nick Stewart started and got the win for the Dukes, going four innings and striking out six while giving up one earned run and two overall runs. Redshirt junior Anthony Piccolino threw five shutout innings to pick up his first career save. The offensive barrage was led by redshirt junior Conor Hartigan and redshirt freshman Mason Dunaway. Hartigan went 2-for-3 with a run scored, four RBI's, and a home run while Dunaway went 3-for-4 with three RBI's and a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dukes got on the board first as Chase DeLauter drew a leadoff walk, was moved to second on a Nick Zona groundout, and then brought home on a Hartigan single up the middle to make it 1-0 after one inning. Bowling Green tied the game at one the next inning on their own RBI single.

JMU would stretch the lead in the third by putting up a four on the scoreboard. After a leadoff walk was followed by a hit by pitch, Hartigan took a pitch over the left field wall to bring make it a 4-1 game. The Dukes would score another run after a single, hit by pitch, and walk loaded the bases for Dunaway to bring the score to 5-1 on a groundout.

The Falcons closed the gap, pushing a run across in the fourth and then two more in the fifth to make the score 5-4 in favor of the hosts. The Dukes bats then got hot as they scored in four consecutive innings, scoring once in the fifth, five in the sixth, once in the seventh, and then finished it off with three in the eighth to take a commanding 15-4 lead which is was the score the game would end on.

GAME NOTES
- DeLauter reached base six times during the game, which included being walked four times. It was the first four-walk game for a Duke since Ky Parrott against UNCW on 5/15/16.
- Seven different JMU players set or tied career-highs in statistical categories.
