HARRISONBURG, Va, -- The James Madison baseball team (1-5) fell in the series finale, 10-4, to Bowling Green (2-4) on Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park.
Freshman
Joe Vogatsky started on the mound for the Dukes, going three and a third innings while striking out four. Redshirt freshman
Chase DeLauter led the Dukes at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Bowling Green got out to an early lead to start off the game, scoring two runs in the top of the first. With a runner on second thanks to a fielder's choice and wild pitch, back-to-back singles gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead. The Dukes responded quickly, as DeLauter led off the first with a double off the right field foul pole and brought in by
Nick Zona on a single to make it 2-1.
The Dukes then took the lead in the second, as
Travis Reifsnider reached on a hit by pitch and was followed by a walk to
Callaway Sigler. After a double steal to move runners into scoring position, redshirt freshman
Mason Dunaway took a 1-2 pitch to right center to bring in the runners and give JMU a 3-2 lead. The Falcons responded in the fourth by scoring six runs, capped off by a two-run single with bases loaded to retake the lead and make it 8-3.
The Falcons would extend their lead to 9-3 in the sixth on an RBI single, but the Dukes would make it a five-run game once again in the bottom half of the inning on a sharply hit DeLauter sacrifice fly. Bowling Green however scored a run in the eighth to make it 10-4, which would be the score that the game would end at.
GAME NOTES
- Four Dukes reached base via a hit by pitch.
- Dunaway had his second multi-RBI game in as many games.
- DeLauter has led off the game for the Dukes by reaching base in all three games of the weekend series.
