BOSTON – James Madison finished its entire Colonial Athletic Association schedule unbeaten as the field hockey team shutout Northeastern, 3-0 on the road to claim the regular season title on Sunday afternoon.
Â
The Dukes (5-1, 5-0 CAA) earned their fifth regular season championship in program history while shutting out their third CAA foe this season.
Â
Freshman
Lauren Satchell scored her second game-winning goal of the season assisted by
Eveline Zwager, her first of the season, in addition to scoring her team-leading fifth goal of the year. Junior
Kara McClure put in her first goal of her career and freshman
Brandelynn Heinbaugh recorded her third shutout of the year, only needing two saves to improve to 5-1 on the season.
Â
Both teams began the game with strong offensive pushes as there were 11 shots in the first period combined (JMU 5, NU 6). JMU was able to capitalize in the first quarter as Zwager dribbled through a couple defenders and fired a pass across the goal to find a wide-open Satchell who tapped it into the net.
Â
The Dukes tightened up on defense in the second as they did not allow the Huskies (3-7, 1-3 CAA) to register a shot. With the ball in the circle, Northeastern intercepted a pass but Zwager stole the ball right back and continued dribbling to her right before she fired a chip shot over the goalie to make it 2-0 Dukes heading into half.
Â
The final insurance goal was scored by McClure who cashed in the first penalty stroke goal of the season.

Quoting Coach Morgan
"Again Lauren, Eveline and Kara finished with goals to pull us through a very physical ugly game of hockey," head coach
Christy Morgan said. "We are happy that we are undefeated in conference and three shutouts with great performances by our keeper! We have a great team and have more potential in us. Our goal moving forward is to tap into it and play our best hockey ever."
