WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - Junior Conor Hartigan went 4-for-4 with a double and three runs to lead the way on Saturday, as the James Madison baseball team opened its weekend Colonial Athletic Association series against William & Mary with a 9-5 win at Plumeri Park.

The Dukes (7-9, 4-3 CAA) racked up 13 hits combined in the contest, including four doubles and a third-inning home run from sophomore Kyle Novak, forcing five different William & Mary (9-19, 6-7 CAA) pitchers to the mound across the afternoon.

Novak, along with freshmen Chase DeLauter and Mason Dunaway, all tallied a pair of hits and an extra-base hit each, while four different JMU pitchers combined to strike out seven and limit the Tribe to six hits. Freshman Donovan Burke picked up the win in his second start this year to improve to 3-0, while sophomore Lliam Grubbs threw 2 1/3 perfect innings to collect his fourth save of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dukes opened the scoring with a run on an error in the first inning, then added three more in the third when Hartigan drove in DeLauter on a single and came home himself on Novak's two-run blast over the right field wall.

JMU made it 4-2 in the fourth without a hit, after sophomore Trevon Dabney and DeLauter walked, then orchestrated a double steal with two outs to push Dabney home before the tag was applied.

Five seventh-inning hits for the Dukes pushed the game out of reach, as sophomore Travis Reifsnider, Dabney and Dunaway all collected RBIs in a four-run frame that made it 9-2. The Tribe would score three in the bottom half of the inning, but wouldn't threaten again as Grubbs shut the door.

UP NEXT
The Dukes and Tribe, who were scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, will instead move their remaining two games this weekend to Sunday. The rescheduled twinbill will begin at 1 p.m.
