CAPE COD, Mass. – James Madison two-way player Chase DeLauter capped off a solid summer season in the Cape Cod Baseball League by being named the Robert A. McNeese Outstanding Pro Prospect Award winner, the league announced this week.
DeLauter becomes the first player from JMU to earn the award, given to the top MLB prospect to have played in the CCBL during the summer.
An All-Star in the Cape, DeLauter carried the success he had in the spring over to the summer. As part of the Orleans Firebirds, DeLauter slashed .298/.397/.589 in 34 games and was tied for the league lead in home runs with nine. He finished with 21 runs and scored a league-high 27 runs.
DeLauter was named to the All-CAA First Team and All-Rookie Team during a shortened 2021 season which saw him hit a league best .386. The redshirt freshman recorded a hit in all but two games during the season he played in, ending the season by reaching base in 24 consecutive games while also putting together a 16-game hit streak.
The Hedgesville, W.Va. native also led the team in OPS (1.231), runs (26), doubles (12), triples (two), home runs (six), and was second in hits (39) and RBI's (21).
