HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison midfielder
Nate Corley picked no better time for his first career goal, scoring 49 seconds into overtime to give JMU a 1-0 win over the College of Charleston Saturday night at Sentara Park.
Â
The win pushes the Dukes' win streak to four and moves them to 4-1, 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association, while the Cougars fall to 1-1-2, 0-1 CAA.
Â
The Dukes shot out the gate aggressively for the game, as they out shot the Cougars 8-1 in the first half. JMU was awarded a corner kick in the fourth minute before
Luca Erhardt fired the first shot in the ninth minute. A pair of shots from
Ethan Taylor and
Axel Ahlander minutes later were both saved as the Dukes continued to get through the opposing back line. The Cougars got their first shot off in the 31
st minute, but the teams would go into half scoreless.
Â
CofC was able to get the first two shots off in the first moments of the second half, but the Dukes continued their offensive approach from the first half. JMU had an opportunity to get on the board between the 59
th and 61
st minutes, but all four shots were either blocked, wide, or saved.
Â
The Dukes had another opportunity in the 86
th minute as Ahlander fired a shot from about 25 yards out that Cameron Smith just barely saved to force a JMU corner kick.
Rodrigo Robles would corral the rebounded kick and fired back-to-back headers on target, but both were saved. The two teams would remain knotted at zeros at the end of regulation and head to overtime.
Â
The Dukes had an opportunity 25 seconds into overtime to score, as a beautiful through ball set up Corley mere feet from the goal, but Smith would slide in and save the shot. Corley did not miss on his second opportunity though to end the game. After Erhardt recovered the rebound off his own blocked shot, he quickly passed to Corley who would set himself up with a dribble and fire in the game winner in the upper left corner of the goal to give JMU a 1-0 win.

Quoting Head Coach Paul Zazenski
"Tonight was a great win against a team that was extremely well organized defensively. Our guys' mentality was superb just to stay the course and believe we would get a result. It was great to open up CAA play with a good result against a team that was very brought in. We will have a short rest before we face an ACC opponent on the road in NC State."

Up Next
The Dukes head onto the road and will travel to Raleigh, N.C. to take on NC State in a Tuesday night matchup on Sept. 14. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
