WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – James Madison field hockey was topped by No. 14 Wake Forest 6-2 Sunday afternoon at Kentner Stadium. The Dukes fell to 3-3 this season while the Deacons improved to 2-3.

Wake Forest finished the opening frame with a 2-0 lead over the 24^th-ranked Dukes. Caroline Cahill then cut the Deacons lead and put JMU on the board with a beautiful backhanded shot in the second quarter for her first goal of the season.

However, Wake would go on to score two goals in both the third and fourth quarters to take a 6-1 lead. Courtney Lynch was able to find the back of the cage for her first goal of the season with under a minute left of play, but ultimately the Deacons would walk away with the win.

Wake Forest took the most shots and penalty corners by any JMU opponent thus far this season with 19 and nine, respectively. The Dukes took a season-low seven shots and were unable to collect any penalty corners for the first time this year.

In goal for JMU, Florien Marcussen made three saves over three quarters and Brandelynn Heinbaugh made two stops in her one quarter of action.
