JMU Falls to #17 Duke, 3-1

HARRISONBURG, Va. - James Madison field hockey fell to #17 Duke 3-1 Sunday afternoon at JMU Field Hockey Complex. The Dukes fell to 3-4 this season, while the Blue Devils improved to 3-4.

The Dukes started off the first quarter strong, with a goal from Caroline Cahill on backhand shot off a penalty corner for her second goal of the season.Â

JMU went unanswered in the second quarter, however, and Duke tied the game in the second at 1-1 at the half. The Blue Devils followed with two more unanswered goals in the second half to secure the win.

The Dukes out-shot the Blue Devils 4-0 in the fourth quarter, but were unable to find the back of the net. JMU also topped Duke in corner penalties 6-0 in the final quarter.

JMU only had seven total shots, tying its season low in the shots department. The Dukes improved from the previous game's zero penalty corners, finishing the game with nine.

In goal for JMU, Florien Marcussen faced a record-high 13 shots and made five saves, which was one shy of her season best.
