HARRISONBURG, Va. – The James Madison field hockey team shut out Davidson 7-0 in a strong performance on Sunday afternoon at the JMU Field Hockey Complex.
The Dukes improved to 4-4 while the Wildcats fell to 2-6 on the year.
JMU had seven different goal scorers, which included five in the second half to help the Dukes return to the win column.
Eveline Zwager tallied a game-high three points off one goal and one assists, while
Emily Harrison also tacked on one goal and a helper and
Courtney Lynch pulled through with two assists as well.
JMU also got scores from
Mikenna Allen,
Caroline Cahill,
Tori Carawan,
Samantha Grimes and
Diede Remijnse. The goals by Allen and Grimes were the first of their respective careers.
The Dukes dominated the shots department by a 27-1 margin, which included 16-0 in the first half. JMU also held a 16-0 lead in shots on goal. It also had a 12-1 advantage in penalty corners.
After a scoreless first, Zwager opened the scoring 46 seconds into the second quarter off a redirect from
Kara McClure. Allen's first-career tally minutes later gave JMU a 2-0 halftime lead.
The Dukes added two more goals in the third and three in the fourth to complete the rout.
For Davidson, Cato Roell made nine saves, while
Florien Marcussen earned the win for JMU despite not facing a single shot on goal. Davidson's lone shot was blocked by a JMU defender.
