RICHMOND, Va. – James Madison field hockey got off to a fast start and turned in its third clean sheet of the season to upend Richmond 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Crenshaw Field.
The 24th-ranked Dukes improved to 3-1 on the year, while the Spiders dropped to 0-3. All three JMU victories this season have come by way of 3-0 shutouts.
Eveline Zwager scored a game-high two goals with an assist, as she upped season goals total to six.
Diede Remijnse also opened the scoring for the Dukes with her second tally of the season.
In cage,
Florien Marcussen made five saves in just under 49 minutes of work, and
Brandelynn Heinbaugh finished the game making two saves to preserve the shutout.
JMU out-shot Richmond 16-11, including an 8-7 edge in shots on goal. Penalty corners were nearly even, with UR holding a 7-6 lead, though JMU had a 4-0 advantage in the fourth quarter.
