Chase DeLauter was named the recipient of the 2021 D1Baseball Summer Breakout Prospect Award, the outlet announced on Wednesday morning.

After starting his collegiate career on a 15-game hit streak before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, DeLauter has emerged as one of the top players in the country after an impressive spring and summer this year.

The lefty outfielder, who also pitches for JMU, earned Colonial Athletic Association First Team and All-Rookie honors in the spring after leading the league in hitting with a .386 batting average. He ended the season on a 16-game hitting streak, as well as reaching base safely in 24 consecutive games. DeLauter led the team in runs (26), doubles (12), triples (two), home runs (six), slugging percentage (.723), on base percentage (.508), and in OPS (1.231). He was second in hits (39) and third in RBI's (21).

The Martinsburg, W.Va. native then headed to the Cape Cod League for the summer as part of the Orleans Firebirds and ended the season tied for the league lead in home runs with nine. He hit .298 and finished top 10 in the league in runs (27), hits (37), doubles (seven), and RBI's (21). He was named an All-Star halfway through the summer, and became the first JMU player to be named the winner of the Robert A. McNeese Outstanding Pro Prospect Award when the season concluded.
