DAKAR, SENEGAL – Former James Madison women's basketball player
Anne Diouf has been named to the Senegal women's national basketball team that is set to compete in the 2021 FIBA Women's AfroBasket tournament later this month.
Diouf transferred to JMU to play her final season of collegiate ball during the 2020-21 season. The forward started in all 24 games for the Dukes, averaging 20.3 minutes per outing. Diouf averaged 5.6 points and 6.3 rebounds during her lone season in Harrisonburg. She collected 10+ boards in four games, including an impressive career-best 16 rebounds at Drexel.
The FIBA Women's AfroBasket is the top women's basketball tournament in Africa. The event takes place every two years and features the top 12 national teams on the continent. This year's tournament will be the 27
th edition of the event, taking place from September 17 to September 26 in Cameroon.
Senegal has won 12 of the 26 AfroBasket titles. Diouf and the Lionesses will look to capture their 13
th crown as they open tournament play on Saturday, Sept. 18 against Guinea.
