HARRISONBURG, Va. - James Madison cut a 16-point deficit to just six points in the second half on Saturday evening, but faltered late as the Dukes fell to Delaware in an 85-69 defeat in men's basketball action at the Atlantic Union Bank Center on Saturday.
The Dukes (12-7, 3-5) did not lead in the contest, shooting just 39% (23-59) from the field as Delaware (15-7, 6-3) hit 29 of 59 shots (49.2%) and 11 threes to keep JMU at bay and pull away late.
Redshirt freshman
Terrence Edwards continued his strong play, matching his career high with 17 points and adding seven rebounds and three assists, while redshirt junior
Vado Morse added 19 points in the loss.
Guard Ebby Asamoah racked up 30 points with the help of six three-pointers to lead Delaware.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
The two teams were evenly-matched in the early goings, as the lead did not get above six points until a 10-3 Delaware run gave the Blue Hens a 32-23 lead with 5:58 to play.
The Dukes would cut the deficit back to four with 3:50 to go in the half, but a 1-6 shooting stretch for JMU allowed Delaware to push the gap back to 43-34 at the break.
Second Half
Delaware came out hot in the second half, hitting its first six shots of the period - including a pair of three-pointers - to take a 57-41 lead in the first three minutes of the half.
JMU battled back, cutting the advantage to as few as six and keeping the gap at single-digits for much of the middle portion of the half, but a 12-2 Delaware run starting at the 5:54 mark put the game out of reach for good.

Justin Amadi had nine points and nine rebounds, marking the fifth time this year that he has grabbed at least nine boards.
