HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison volleyball earned its place at the top of the Sun Belt East Division in their 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-17) sweep over Coastal Carolina on Friday evening at Godwin Hall.
The Dukes improved to 15-4 (9-1 SBC) while the Chanticleers fell to 15-8 (7-3).
JMU had double the blocks of Coastal with 12, with
Miëtte Veldman and
Annie Smith recording 5 and
Sophie Davis notching 4. Veldman also tallied 12 kills, followed by Bre Reid with 11. On offense, the Dukes hit .311, with Reid hitting a career high .360.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
The Dukes started off the first set with a 6-0 run to put them up 7-4. A 4-0 run put the Dukes up 4 points and the Chanticleers could not recover.
Second Set
The set started off evenly, but JMU put together a 5-1 run to take a slight lead. The Dukes earned seven out of nine points to wrap up the set with a 2-0 advantage.
Third Set
A dominant 5-1 start set the pace for the Dukes in the final set. Another 7-1 run solidified the lead for the Dukes, allowing them to sweep the Chanticleers.

The Dukes will head back down to Georgia to take on Georgia Southern on Oct. 28 & 29, with both matches being streamed on ESPN+.
