DULUTH, Ga. - James Madison men's golf nearly picked up its first team title of the season on Tuesday afternoon, sitting atop the leaderboard but falling in a one-hole playoff to close out the Georgia State Invitational, hosted at the par-72, 6,707-yard Berkeley Hills Country Club.
The Dukes posted consistent performances, carding 289-288-290 (+3) on the week, but saw Tennessee Tech log a final-round 281 (-7) - the lowest single round in the 16-team field on the week - to force a playoff before taking the victory on the first hole.
Freshman
Owen Kose continued his stellar freshman season as he led the way for the Dukes on the week, bouncing back from an opening-round 74 to post 71-70 (215, -1) in his final loops to climb into a tie for fourth among 87 players. The performance marked his first collegiate top-five finish.
Sophomores
Daniel Cheng (68-70-80) and
Kyle Kushnir (72-72-74) tied for 10th at 218 (+2) on the week, with Kushnir grabbing a top-10 finish in his JMU debut and Cheng carding the second of his young career.
Freshman
Václav Tichý provided consistency with scores of 75-75-73 (+7) that saw him tie for 30th, while senior
Nick Schlickenrieder closed out the JMU scoring in a tie for 52nd at 229 (77-79-73).
Playing as an individual in his collegiate debut, freshman
Suneil Peruvemba finished tied for 67th with rounds of 77-80-76.

The Dukes will have 10 days off before continuing their 2022 fall campaign, traveling to Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C. to take part in the Wolfpack Intercollegiate on Oct. 15-16.
