ATLANTA – The James Madison swimming & diving program will compete in the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association for the 2022-23 season, as announced by Commissioner Jerome Rodgers on Thursday afternoon.
Â
The Dukes will be joined by Old Dominion as they add to the group of Bellarmine, Campbell, FGCU, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, Liberty, UNC Asheville, North Florida and Queens that makes up the CCSA women's swimming & diving league for this season. Liberty is the current reigning champion.
Â
"The CCSA is excited for the additions of James Madison University and Old Dominion University," said Rodgers. "Effective immediately, James Madison University and Old Dominion University will compete as CCSA members. We look forward to having them join us in Knoxville for our women's swimming and diving championship in February 2023."
Â
"The CCSA will be a great home for our swimming & diving program for the 2022-23 season and will provide a high-level championship opportunity for our student-athletes," James Madison Director of Athletics Jeff Bourne said. "We're grateful that the CCSA was willing to welcome us to their league, and I'd like to thank Commissioner Jerome Rodgers and the CCSA staff and member schools."

JMU sits at 3-2 in dual meets this season, as they are on a run of five consecutive team titles. After running a four-peat in the Colonial Athletic Association from the 2017-18 season until the 2020-21 season, the Dukes then won the Eastern College Athletic Conference championship last season. The program is currently guided by Head Coach
Dane Pedersen, who is in his ninth season and 16
th overall with the program. He has been at the helm for the five-title stretch and has been a part of six of the 12 overall conference championships the program has.
Â
"We are excited to enter a new, exciting, competitive conference in the CCSA," said Pedersen. "Being able to see so many new teams with such a high level of talent and depth provides a great opportunity and challenge for our program. Our girls are excited to experience a new environment."
Â
The lone season spent in the CCSA coincides with JMU's move into the Sun Belt Conference that began on July 1, 2022. The Sun Belt currently does not sponsor women's swimming & diving, but the league's Board approved sponsorship of the sport by no later than the 2023-24 season during their Spring Meeting in June.Â

The CCSA is a progressive NCAA Division I conference dedicated to the enhancement of opportunities for students. The conference was founded in 2008 to provide a championship opportunity for swimming and diving student-athletes and extended that opportunity with the addition of beach volleyball in the summer of 2015. The league's footprint extends into several states: Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia. The CCSA is dedicated to the student-athletes who compete in its championships and their success in the classroom, in the field of competition, and life after graduation.
