QUICK HITS
- James Madison will begin its first season as a member of the Sun Belt Conference with a Monday afternoon matchup at the Atlantic Union Bank Center against Valley Forge.
- The Dukes are coming off a 15-14 2021-22 campaign which began with a 9-2 non-conference mark including the program's first ever win over Virginia. JMU then went 6-12 in its final season in the Colonial Athletic Association.
- JMU was led on offense last year by Vado Morse, who averaged 15.5 points per game including 18.7 in league contests. He scored 15 or more in 12 straight games spanning from Jan. 20 through Feb. 19. He also led JMU with 71 total assists.
- Morse's scoring garnered him a pair of postseason honors including Second Team All-CAA and Second Team All-District 10 from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
- Before his season was cut short due to injury, graduate transfer Takal Molson made quite an impact with 12.3 points per game, 5.2 rebounds per game and 29 total steals. His 19 points and four steals over 32 minutes helped the Dukes win a back-and-forth battle with in-state rival George Mason on Nov. 19.
- JMU's roster is bolstered by transfers Noah Freidel and Mezie Offurum. Freidel comes in as a sharpshooter out of South Dakota State, with 13.6 points per game and a .392 three-point clip in three season the Jackrabbits. Offerum averaged 11.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game on a .459 shooting percentage with Mount St. Mary's last year.Offurum was also named Third Team All North East Conference (NEC) last season.
- JMU had four different players - Morse, Molson, Terrance Edwards and Charles Falden each score at least 25 points in a game, marking the first time since the 2015-16 season that at least four Dukes scored 25 or more points in a game.
- Redshirt sophomore Justin Amadi was nearly the fifth player to score 25 as he dropped 24 at William & Mary last year. He begins the season as JMU's leading returning rebounder (5.4/game in 21-22) and with two of the top five single-season field goal percentages in program history - 69.5% in 2020-21 (1st at JMU) and 64.0% in 2021-22 (5th at JMU).
