Centeio Named a Finalist for 2022 Bill Dudley Award

RICHMOND, Va. – James Madison quarterback Todd Centeiohas been selected as one of three finalists for the 2022 Bill Dudley Award, the Richmond Times-Dispatch announced on Monday.

The Dudley Award is given annually to the Commonwealth of Virginia's best college football player competing at the Division I level (FBS or FCS). Joining Centeio as finalists are William & Mary linebacker John Pius and Richmond quarterback Reece Udinski.

Centeio helped lead JMU to an 8-3 record and 6-2 mark in Sun Belt Conference play to finish tied atop the East Division in the program's first season competing at the FBS level.

Voted Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, he completed 64% of his passes, throwing for 2,697 passing yards and 25 touchdowns with just five interceptions. He also ran for 393 yards and seven scores, accounting for 3,090 total yards and 32 total touchdowns.

Centeio was named to midseason watch lists for the Maxwell Award, Manning Award, Davey O'Brien Award and CFPA National Performer of the Year on top of winning a league-high four Offensive Player of the Week accolades from the Sun Belt.

He ranks second nationally and leads the Sun Belt in both yards per completion (14.9) and yards per pass attempt (9.5). Centeio is also fourth in the FBS in pass efficiency (169.0), seventh in point responsibility (19.4), 14th in total offense (309.0), 18th in passing touchdowns (25) and 21st in passing average (269.7). He had four games with four or more passing touchdowns and three with five or more total scores.

JMU has won five Dudley Awards all-time, with previous recipients including Rodney Landers (2008), Stephon Robertson (2013), Vad Lee (2014, 2015) and Bryan Schor (2016). Centeio also becomes JMU's 15th finalist for the award, which began back in 1990.

The award will be presented on CBS 6 in Richmond on Saturday, Dec. 10, with the broadcast beginning at approximately at 6:30 p.m. following the Army-Navy game.
