HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
After UNCW opened with three-pointers on its first two possessions, the Dukes used a 7-0 run to go up 9-6, taking a lead they would keep for most of the opening half.
JMU would push the advantage to as many as nine, but the Seahawks put together a 14-3 run late in the half and took a 39-37 lead into the break.
Second Half
JMU scored the first four points out of halftime to go back on top and wouldn't trail the remainder of the half.
The Dukes steadily grew their lead, building all the way back to 71-62 with 4:24 left, but would not score the remainder of regulation. The Seahawks would chip away, tying things up with 21 seconds left as JMU could not get a last-second three-pointer to go.
Overtime
In the extra frame, the Dukes' scoreless stretch lasted all the way to the 2:28 mark, allowing UNCW to go up 76-71 before JMU could respond. The Dukes then scored the next six points, culminating with a jumper in the paint from graduate student
Charles Falden with 7.3 seconds left that gave them a 77-76 lead.
After a timeout, UNCW drove into traffic and drew a foul in the paint with 0.6 seconds to play. The Seahawks knocked down both shots and JMU could not get a shot off through contact on the inbounds heave, sealing the result.
