JMU Announces Departure of Defensive Coordinator Corey Hetherman

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison Head Coach Curt Cignetti announced Thursday the departure of Corey Hetherman from the coaching staff, as he left for a coaching opportunity at the Power 5 level.
Hetherman served as JMU's defensive coordinator and defensive line coach since 2019 and more recently was tabbed associated head coach prior to the 2021 season.
"We really appreciate Corey's contributions to the JMU football program," Head Coach Curt Cignetti said. "We wish him and Julie the best of luck in their next and future endeavors."
While leading the defense, JMU ranked in the top 10 in the Football Championship Subdivision each season in both total defense and scoring defense. That included leading the nation in total defense and ranking third in scoring defense in 2019.
