DORADO, Puerto Rico - The James Madison men's golf team opened the spring portion of its schedule in strong fashion this week, matching its best round of the year as the Dukes took home fifth place at the Dorado Beach Collegiate, hosted by UNCG at the par-72, 7,112-yard Sugarcane Course at TPC Dorado Beach.

Senior
Ignacio Montero led the way, capturing the fifth top-five finish of his career with a 67-72-68 (-9) week that put him in sole possession of fourth among 81 players, just five shots out of the lead.

As a team, the Dukes climbed into fifth on the 13-team leaderboard with a final-round 277 (-11) that vaulted them in front of No. 44 Virginia Tech. In addition to matching JMU's lowest day of the year, the performance was tied for the eighth-lowest round to par in program history.

Freshman
Daniel Cheng performed well again in just his second collegiate start, bouncing back from an opening-round 73 to fire rounds of 68-70 as he climbed into a tie for 12th at 211 (-5).

Junior
Nick Schlickenrieder (73-73-69) and senior
Neal Shipley (72-73-70) each tied for 25th at 215 (-1) for the week, while senior
Ignacio De Pineda closed out the JMU scoring in 77th (76-77-79).

Playing as an individual, senior
George Heath finished in sole possession of 73rd, carding rounds of 74-74-79 (+11) on the week.
