KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The James Madison baseball team took No. 10 Tennessee to extra innings for the first time this season on Wednesday afternoon, falling 9-8 in 10 innings after play was suspended Tuesday night due to rain before the bottom of the eighth inning. The Dukes then fell, 10-2, in the second game of the two-game series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.Â

The Dukes fall to 8-6, while the Volunteers now hold a 12-1 record.Â

Game One
The Dukes went down early, getting behind the Volunteers 7-1 through the first four innings. Six unanswered runs by JMU in the sixth and seventh innings tied the game at seven apiece in the seventh.
Â
Redshirt juniorÂ
Carson Bell began the comeback, hitting a three-run homer to right field to chip at the lead and make it 7-4 in the sixth. ClassmateÂ
Travis Reifsnider led off the top of the seventh with a solo shot to left, before Bell hit his second home run of the game two batters later to tie the game at seven.Â
Â
The game then went into a thirty-minute rain delay, before being suspended just before the bottom of the eighth. When play resumed Wednesday, the Volunteers were able to score a run to take the lead, 8-7. Freshman
Fenwick Trimble then led off the ninth with a solo shot, the first home run of his collegiate career, to tie the game at eight and eventually force extra innings.Â
Â
The Volunteers were able to knock in the game winning run in the first extra frame, using a trio of singles to score the winning ninth run.Â

Game Two
Tennessee got out to an early lead, hitting a solo shot in the first. The Dukes were able to take a lead in the fourth inning, scoring a pair of runs without recording a hit. After three consecutive walks loaded the bases to begin the inning, freshman
Fenwick Trimble hit a chopper to third to score one. The third baseman attempted a force play at second, but the ball wasn't cleanly caught and allowed another run to score to make it 2-1 JMU.Â
Â
The Volunteers then showed why they lead the nation in home runs, scoring nine unanswered runs using six homers. Tennessee hit a total of seven home runs in the game. They scored three runs in both the sixth and seven innings and two runs in the eighth to win the game 10-2.
