Bats Come Alive as the Dukes Down Drexel in Saturday Double Feature

PHILADELPHIA – James Madison softball collected a pair of wins over Drexel, beating the Dragons 4-1 and 10-1 on Saturday at the Drexel Softball Field.

The Dukes (20-21, 9-5 CAA) out-hit the Dragons (20-19, 4-10 CAA) 18-8 to win both games, while racking up four homers.

GAME 1: JMU 4, DREXEL 1
Lauren Bernett set the course for the Dukes in the top of the first with an RBI single down the left field line to send home Hannah Shifflett. Drexel responded in the bottom of the inning with a similar hit, earning their sole run of the game.

The Dukes took back the lead in the top of the third when Hallie Hall doubled up left center and scored off a fielding error by the outfield. Emily Phillips secured the win in the sixth with her tenth home run of the season.

Alexis Bermudez pitched a complete game, striking out three batters to improve to 7-6 on the year.

GAME 2: JMU 10, Drexel 1
The Dukes racked up 11 hits in game two as Lexi Rogers notched her first two-homer game of her career in JMU's 10-1 win over the Dragons.

In the top of the first, Jasmine Hall was able to find home off of a throwing error by Drexel. The Dragons once again scored their one run of the game in the bottom of the first on an RBI single.

Bernett, who went 2-for-2, cleared the bases with a three-run double in the second take back the lead for JMU. The Dukes followed this with a string of home runs, including Shifflett's 15^th homer of the season. Rogers then went yard in both the fourth and sixth innings to put the Dukes up 10-1.

JMU secured the run-rule win in the bottom of the sixth, seeing three batters come and go.

Alissa Humphrey threw six strikeouts and allowed just three hits in JMU's second win of the day.

The Dukes will face the Dragons tomorrow, Apr. 24 at 12 p.m. as JMU looks to sweep the weekend series in Philadelphia. The game will be available on FloSports.
