HARRISONBURG, Va. - Xavier Brown has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the James Madison men's basketball team for the 2022-23 season, Head Coach
Mark Byington announced on Friday morning.
Â
Brown will come to Harrisonburg after an outstanding senior season at Jamestown High School in Williamsburg. In 2021-22, he averaged 28.6 points, 6.7 assists, 6.6 rebounds and 2.0 steals for the Eagles, earning First Team All-State, All-Region and All-Tidewater honors along the way. His efforts also earned him a spot in the Allen Iverson Classic All-American 24K Showcase last month in Memphis.
Â
"Xavier will be great for our team and will be loved by JMU fans," Byington said. "He lights up the room with his personality, has great leadership abilities and competes on every possession. Xavier has had an accomplished high school career and is one of the best players in Virginia this year. He has played for great coaches, both in high school and with Team Loaded, so we expect him to have a fast adjustment into college basketball."
Â
Prior to playing his junior season at famed Oak Hill Academy, Brown picked up further honors as a sophomore at Jamestown, earning Second Team All-State and First Team All-Region honors in just his second season of high school action.
Â
He also excelled outside of prep action, earning 17U MVP honors earlier this spring at the Big Shots Virginia Beach Tip-Off, scoring 41 points in the championship game, including 29 in the second half.
Â
Brown will join
forward Jerell Roberson as incoming freshmen with the Dukes in 2022-23, while JMU has also added a pair of transfers in
forward Mezie Offurum and
guard Noah Freidel in recent days.
